Home Remedies for Warts

Warts are amongst the top 5 most common ailments/conditions that people want to get rid of. However, as with some of the other most common ailments, the cure is not only something of a mystery, but also high unsuccessful when it comes to the recurrence rates. On the other hand, there are some home remedies that have been shown to have an excelled rate of removing warts permanently.

What Are Warts?

Warts are caused by the human papilloma virus commonly referred to as the HPV. It infects the skin cells in the affected area leaded to burning, itching and sometimes painful nodules or tumor-like growth on the skin that resembles a blister. Based on the area of infection, and the specific strain (type) of the HPV virus, there are various kinds of infection:

  • Genital warts
  • Plantar warts
  • Flat warts
  • Warts on hands and feet ? often referred to as common warts

HPV infections can also cause cervical cancer and some other possible ailments, without any of the symptoms usually accompanied with warts.

Home Remedies For Warts

Other than being of dubious reputation as far as the effectiveness of these treatments is concerned, they are also expensive and have a high rate of re-occurrence of the warts.

As such, home remedies are slowly gaining popularity as being much more effective in treatments at a negligible cost. The best of these home remedies for warts have been compiled by the home remedy expert Chris Gibson in his downloadable e-book ? Get Rid of Warts in Just 3 Days. True to its name, these home remedies have been proven to eliminate warts in an extremely short time in most cases.

However, some of the common home remedies are not the best way for treatment either. These treatments include:

  • Burning or cutting: These are possibly dangerous treatment options that can lead to permanent scarring and damage to the skin. Additionally, there is no evidence that this is an effective treatment for warts.
  • Putting duct tape on the wart: This is especially common for warts on fingers or hands. However, this is a very slow treatment and can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, if not a few years.

Common Medical Treatments Compared To Home Remedies for Warts

The most common medical cures for warts are highly unsuccessful. This is because it is very hard to completely eliminate the virus and already infected skin cells and leave no residue. If any of the viruses are left, the infection generally returns in a few months. This is why the recurrence rate of warts is so high.

The common medical treatments for warts include:

  • Application of Salicylic Acid or Formaldehyde: This is used to turn the skin on the infected area into a blister to get rid of the skin cells that are infected and thus remove the infection. It has a low success rate and high recurrence of the wart(s).
  • Cryosurgery: This involves freezing off the skin near the infection and then surgically cutting it off. This also has a high recurrence rate and the wart often re-appears once the skin heals.
  • Candida injections at the site of the wart: This involves injecting yeast into the area infected with the warts. This is done to stimulate the body’s immune response to the yeast and the virus together. There is little evidence of this being beneficial, and home remedies are widely favored over this method of treatment.
